The Isle of Wight, a scenic island located off the southern coast of England, is set to enhance its growing reputation as a filming hub with the approval of Medina Studios. This state-of-the-art facility will feature four sound stages, two workshops, production offices, and parking for over 100 vehicles. Situated at Kingston Marine Park in East Cowes, the studio’s waterfront location overlooking the River Medina offers unique potential for marine filming opportunities.
This development is expected to generate an estimated 400 production jobs on the island, boosting the local economy and reinforcing the Isle of Wight’s growing appeal to filmmakers. The project is led by talent agent Duncan Heath, former Pinewood executive David Godfrey, and Datasat Media’s Neil Blewett in collaboration with Serious Stages, with Andrew White Planning Consultancy overseeing the planning process.
The Isle of Wight, known for its picturesque landscapes, rich history, and proximity to London, is becoming an attractive destination for international productions. It’s already home to a dedicated Film Office and Isle of Wight Film Fixers CIC, which provide essential services such as props, action vehicles, and local talent to support productions filming on the island.
With conditional planning approval granted, which includes the requirement for a Construction Environmental Management Plan and a Flood Warning and Evacuation Plan, Medina Studios is expected to play a pivotal role in drawing more high-profile projects to this unique part of the UK. Development is set to begin within three years, positioning the Isle of Wight as a competitive player in the global film production industry.
