Hungary has just taken a massive step forward in the world of virtual production. United Illusions, a 21,500-square-foot (2,000-square-meter) facility, has officially opened in Fót, just outside Budapest, making it Central Europe’s largest virtual production studio. Built to cater to both local and international productions, this high-tech facility is set to reshape Hungary’s already booming film industry.
The studio’s centerpiece is a 92-foot-wide (28-meter) ROE LED volume, allowing filmmakers to ditch green screens in favor of real-time digital environments. Using cutting-edge augmented and virtual reality tools, directors and cinematographers can create photorealistic settings on the fly, with full control over lighting, backdrops, and VFX—all in a controlled studio environment.
Developed by Visual Europe Group in partnership with Origo Film Group, United Illusions is certified by ARRI, ensuring it meets global industry standards. “We created United Illusions to elevate filmmaking to a new level and position Budapest as a hub for the virtual production revolution,” says Szabolcs Botond, founder of Visual Europe Group.
As virtual production continues to disrupt traditional filmmaking, major studios are turning to LED volumes to streamline production, cut costs, and reduce location-based shoots. With Hungary’s already generous film incentives and a strong production infrastructure, United Illusions is poised to attract top-tier productions and cement Budapest’s status as a global leader in next-gen digital filmmaking.
