New Jersey’s burgeoning film industry just got a major boost with a new partnership with the powerhouse of Indian cinema. The Producers Guild of India (PGI) and the state of New Jersey signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to attract Bollywood productions to the Garden State.
With India’s film industry experiencing explosive growth, the demand for diverse international shooting locales is skyrocketing. New Jersey, with its attractive tax incentives, diverse landscapes, and skilled workforce, is ready to roll out the red carpet (or should we say, red sari?) for Indian filmmakers.
“Indian productions are increasingly going global,” says Shibasish Sarkar, President of the PGI. “New Jersey’s incredible locations, pro-film environment, and vibrant Indian communities make it an ideal shooting destination.”
New Jersey’s got the goods. A 30-35% tax credit with a diversity bonus sweetens the deal, while breathtaking backdrops ranging from urban grit to rolling hills and charming towns cater to a variety of cinematic visions. Plus, the New York-New Jersey metro area boasts a deep pool of creative and technical talent, ensuring productions run smoothly.
“New Jersey is quickly becoming a go-to spot for film and TV,” says Wesley Mathews, President of Choose New Jersey. “We’re excited to showcase our unparalleled locations and talent to India’s thriving film industry.”
This MOU isn’t just about lights, camera, action – it’s about building bridges. As Tim Sullivan, CEO of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, points out, “Governor Murphy has cultivated a strong relationship with India, making New Jersey a top destination for Indian investment.” This partnership expands beyond film, fostering cultural exchange and economic collaboration across multiple sectors.
This MOU marks a new chapter, not just for the Garden State’s film industry, but for its cultural landscape as well. Stay tuned for the next Bollywood blockbuster filmed right here in your backyard!
