Masters of the Air is a new Second World War drama that began streaming on Apple TV+ yesterday.
With an all-star cast, including Oscar-nominated Elvis star Austin Butler, Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan and current Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa, the series also features Hollywood royalty behind the scenes.
Executive producers Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks have reunited to tell the story of “The Bloody Hundred” 100th Bomb Group, a squadron of US pilots based in Norfolk.
The nine-episode series follows 2001’s Band of Brothers and 2010’s The Pacific to round out their trilogy of Second World War epics.
With the project being more than a decade in the making, and a $250 million budget, this action-packed drama in the skies is expected to be a big hit.
Where was Masters of the Air filmed?

While the series is set at a Norfolk RAF base, filming largely took place in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
The Oxford Mail reported that filming for the series took place in central Oxford in July 2021, with “actors spotted strolling around Radcliffe Square in the sweltering heat”.
Wartime vintage vehicles were also parked in Catte Street and outside the Bodleian Library.
Filming also took place at Dalton Barracks military base in Abingdon, where aeroplanes were filmed taxiing around the runway.
According to Bucks Free Press, parts of the series were secretly filmed at Newland Park, a Grade II-listed country house near the village of Chalfont St Peter in Buckinghamshire.
A set was built on the grounds, which doubled up as the English base and landing field of the American pilots.
Other filming locations in the UK include Trinity Church Square in London, Hemel Hempstead Old Town, and Bovingdon in Hertfordshire.
Studio filming was completed at Bovingdon Airfield Studios, which has previously been home to productions including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Bohemian Rhapsody and The Crown. You can tour the stages on their Stagerunner page here.
