Gary Wordham, a longtime Universal Pictures executive with credits spanning some of the biggest global franchises, has been named president of physical production at Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group.

Wordham, who officially joins the Burbank lot in October, steps into the role after nearly two decades at Universal, where he was a key player behind the studio’s tentpole slate. His oversight included the two most recent Fast & Furious installments, as well as Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Jason Bourne, The Mummy, Girls Trip, Inglourious Basterds, Bridesmaids and Savages. More recently, he steered the massive logistical lift on the two-part Wicked films and next year’s Christopher Nolan epic The Odyssey.

“Working in close partnership with filmmakers and studio leadership, [Gary] will help deliver films from across the Motion Picture Group, leading global day-to-day physical production operations, including postproduction and VFX,” Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group co-chairs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy wrote in a memo to staff. “We are thrilled to have Gary join our team, and we hope you’ll join us in offering him a warm Warner Bros. welcome.”

The move comes as Warner Bros. is riding high with a string of box office wins, including Sinners, Weapons, Superman and The Conjuring: Last Rites, which recently surpassed It to notch the highest horror opening in history.

Wordham, a 30-year industry veteran, has built his reputation as a production leader capable of mounting large-scale projects across the globe. His career has taken him to “ten U.S. states, four Canadian provinces, the Czech Republic, England, Italy, Thailand, Germany, the Canary Islands, Portugal, and Namibia, among others,” according to the studio.
