Versa Studios Partners With FAE On Production Facility In UK
Future Artists Entertainment and Versa Studios have partnered on a production facility that includes four soundstages, ranging from 10,000 to 27,000 square feet, and will over time also add post-production and VFX services.
In a move poised to bolster film production in Northern England, studio network Versa Studios has announced a joint venture with Future Artists Entertainment (FAE) to establish a major film production hub in Leeds. The Hollywood Reporter first reported that the partnership aims to transform Versa’s existing facility in the city into a “world-class filmmaking home,” offering comprehensive production services and facilities under one roof.
Currently boasting four soundstages ranging from 10,000 to 27,000 square feet, the hub plans to expand further, incorporating post-production and VFX services alongside educational and outreach programs. This multi-faceted approach seeks to create a dynamic film ecosystem within the facility.
The venture leverages the strengths of both partners. FAE, founded in 2019, has already attracted over $150 million in production spend, producing 14 films, while Versa has hosted high-profile productions like Marvel Studios’ “Secret Invasion.” Recognizing Leeds’ potential as a thriving film destination, they aim to establish a collaborative space attracting a diverse range of productions while nurturing local talent.
“This partnership is a testament to Leeds’ ability to become an internationally recognized production hub,” commented FAE CEO Matt Williams, highlighting the city’s competitive pricing and vibrant student population. He envisions a space that fosters collaboration, welcoming “a range of other production companies and projects” while nurturing local talent.
Versa’s Charlie Ingall echoed the sentiment, emphasizing their commitment to “nurturing next-gen talent” and creating a “unique production hub with global appeal.” This extends beyond production, with Versa’s sister company, Department, opening a multi-creative and tech hub in Leeds Dock, offering additional resources for productions.
This strategic move aligns with Allied London’s vision, as chairman Michael Ingall sees it as a “major play” in their creative industries strategy. “This joint venture enables us to accelerate our ambition for Leeds,” he declared, envisioning the city as a regional capital for the creative industries.
The impact of this partnership is anticipated to be significant. With its comprehensive facilities, collaborative environment, and focus on talent development, the Leeds hub has the potential to attract productions large and small, fostering a vibrant film community and propelling the city onto the global film map. This move signifies a positive development for the UK film industry, offering exciting opportunities for filmmakers and creative professionals in the North.
