NBCUniversal has confirmed that its new Jurassic World movie will film this year at its own Sky Studios Elstree in the UK.

With a release date already set for July 2025, the expectation from our sources is that the blockbuster will begin filming this summer, though that hasn’t been confirmed by the studio.

Stagerunner reported last month that Godzilla, Rogue One and The Creator filmmaker Gareth Edwards was in final negotiations to direct the movie, which will be a fresh take on the Jurassic era with Jurassic World cast members Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard not expected to return, nor the original trilogy’s thespians Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill. David Koepp penned the script.

The confirmation of the movie filming at Sky Studios came from Universal’s sister company Sky, which today heralded UK government updates to the local tax credit and business rates.

The new Jurassic World movie will become the third major film to shoot at Universal’s Sky Studios venue – after Wicked and Paddington 3 – which opened last year. The film is also expected to shoot in other global destinations – most movies in the franchise have filmed in Hawaii, though that hasn’t been confirmed as a destination. Previous Jurassic World movies had shot at Pinewood in the UK but this one will not be filming there.

According to studio sources, the previous Jurassic movie generated more than 2,000 jobs and $227m(£180M) spend in the UK. However, the makeup of the crew on this installment, and even its viability, may come into question if an IATSE and Teamsters strike goes ahead this summer.

The new film will be will be executive-produced by Steven Spielberg through Amblin Entertainment, Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley will produce through Kennedy-Marshall. Executive Vice President of Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for Universal.
