Orbital Studios is bringing its virtual production operation to one of Los Angeles’ most recognizable studio lots.

The company has relocated its LED walls and headquarters to Television City, the former CBS studio facility on Fairfax Avenue long associated with classic television productions including The Carol Burnett Show and The Price Is Right. The move shifts Orbital from its previous home in the Los Angeles Arts District to a studio campus with deep ties to the city’s production history.

For Television City, the arrival adds a new layer of production capability at a time when studio lots are looking to modernize their offerings and compete for increasingly technology-driven projects. Orbital’s setup brings LED volume infrastructure, virtual production services and a research and development lab to the property.

Virtual production has become an increasingly important tool for film and television producers looking to create digital environments on physical stages, combining LED screens, computer-generated imagery, digital scans and real-time visual effects workflows. For Netflix’s Nemesis, Orbital Studios recreated portions of downtown Los Angeles using digital scans, allowing production teams to work inside a digitally rebuilt version of the city.

The company is currently in production on FX’s The Drop: A Snowfall Saga. Its previous credits include Justified: City Primeval, History’s Greatest Heists and World War II With Tom Hanks.

The move also reflects a broader shift across the Los Angeles soundstage business, as traditional studio facilities look beyond basic stage rentals and toward more integrated production services. With LED volumes and virtual production tools now part of the conversation much earlier in the creative process, studio lots are increasingly being asked to offer not just space, but technology, infrastructure and specialized expertise.

For Television City, Orbital’s arrival gives the historic lot a foothold in that next chapter.
