Netflix is expanding its footprint in the booming video podcast market, signing a major partnership with Spotify to bring a slate of the streamer’s most popular shows—including The Bill Simmons Podcast and The Ringer Fantasy Football Show—to its platform.
The deal, which marks Netflix’s most aggressive move yet into video-first podcasting, will see more than a dozen Spotify titles migrate from YouTube to Netflix starting next year. The curated lineup spans sports, culture, and true crime, with other titles including The Rewatchables, The Mismatch, The Ringer NFL Show, Fairway Rollin’, The Big Picture, Dissect, and Serial Killers.
The collaboration underscores Netflix’s growing strategy of leveraging existing creator ecosystems. It follows recent partnerships with YouTube stars Ms. Rachel and Mark Rober, whose educational and science-based content has already drawn massive followings on the platform.
“At Netflix, we’re always looking for new ways to entertain our members, wherever and however they want to watch,” said Lauren Smith, Netflix VP of Content Licensing and Programming Strategy. “As video podcasts continue to grow in popularity, our partnership with Spotify allows us to bring full video versions of these top shows to both Netflix and Spotify audiences.”
Spotify’s Roman Wasenmüller, VP and Head of Podcasts, called the partnership “a new chapter for podcasting,” adding that it “offers more choice to creators and unlocks a completely new distribution opportunity.”
The move also reflects Spotify’s pivot toward maximizing video engagement on its podcast platform. CEO Daniel Ek previously noted a 50% year-over-year increase in creators publishing video podcasts. For Netflix, it’s another step in positioning itself as an all-purpose entertainment destination—one that now includes the industry’s most-watched sports and culture podcasts alongside its film, TV, and documentary offerings.
