While much of the film and TV world is tiptoeing through a production downturn, one Brooklyn studio is breaking into a full sprint. Say hello to Be Electric Studios—the rare kind of place that’s not just weathering the storm, but growing in every direction.
Founded by photographer Andrew Stern, Be Electric began with humble roots: a small photo studio in Bushwick built as a creative hangout for Stern and his artist friends. Fast forward to today, and it’s a full-service production hub with 10 soundstages, two LED volumes, a commercial kitchen, and an equipment rental business that aims to simplify life for every producer who walks through the door.
“We’ve always been about adaptability,” says Stern. “This wasn’t built overnight. It’s been about listening to our clients and growing in ways that actually help them.”
That approach has paid off. Be Electric has become a trusted home for a wildly diverse slate of productions, from scripted series like Orange is the New Black and Search Party, to unscripted hits like Top Chef and the Chopped franchise, to iconic comedy formats like Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. It’s a studio that understands New York’s creative DNA—and knows how to serve it.
One reason for their success? Be Electric didn’t put all its eggs in the “big-budget scripted” basket. Instead, they built strong ties across commercials, unscripted television, sketch comedy, and now, increasingly, the booming world of digital creators.
“Brooklyn and NYC are becoming ground zero for content creators,” says Stern. “YouTubers, TikTok stars, indie brands—they need studio space, fast turnarounds, good lighting, and maybe some help shooting. That’s exactly what we’re built for.”
To meet that demand, Be Electric has launched a growing in-house content team focused on social-first production, working directly with creators and brands looking for high-end, full-service studio solutions. And yes, they’re cranking out content for Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube weekly.
Meanwhile, their commercial kitchen studio has become a go-to destination for culinary formats—used regularly for cooking competition series like Top Chef and multiple installments in the Chopped universe.

Be Electric’s in-house kitchen Studio is the home to unscripted cooking series “Chopped” and Top Chef”.
They’ve also embraced virtual production, operating two full-service LED volumes in Brooklyn and Long Island City, while consulting on volume builds for other studios nationwide. Be Electric isn’t just using the tech—they’re helping shape how it’s deployed across the industry.
“We want to be the people that help other studios get this right,” says Stern. “We’ve already done the hard part—figuring out what works. Now we’re helping others get there faster.”
To make things even smoother for clients, the studio offers a rental division with lights, grip, and electric. The idea is simple: show up, plug in, and shoot.
“You shouldn’t have to crisscross the boroughs just to rent a flag or get a C-stand,” Stern laughs. “If you’re here, we’ve got you covered.”
In a time when many studios are pausing or pulling back, Be Electric is doing something far more radical: thriving. Thanks to a loyal client base, a diverse project slate, and a refusal to sit still, they’ve become one of New York’s most dependable—and forward-looking—studios.
“We don’t chase trends,” Stern says. “We serve the people who are making stuff now—and the ones who’ll define what production looks like next.”
