Luminate and StageRunner Partner on New Report Charting the Future of Film and TV Production
As the production industry shifts post-strike and post-peak streaming, Luminate-owned Variety Intelligence has partnered with Stagerunner to release Hollywood Exodus—a new report exploring how, where, and why film and TV production is moving.
Now available on Variety VIP+, the report blends exclusive data from Luminate Film & TV, commentary from global commissions, and StageRunner’s own soundstage analytics to paint a clearer picture of the industry’s next chapter.
While Los Angeles production hit historic lows in early 2025, the report avoids alarmism. Instead, it focuses on emerging opportunities in markets like Toronto, London, and Seoul, while highlighting the policy changes and infrastructure investment needed to keep U.S. production competitive.
Drawing from StageRunner’s global client list and industry data covering more than 1,100 global soundstages, the report features key insights on capacity, construction, and the economic role of soundstages in today’s production ecosystem.
“This isn’t just about what’s leaving L.A.,” the report states. “It’s about how the industry adapts—and where it can grow next.”
With governments weighing new national incentives and soundstage operators recalibrating strategy, Hollywood Exodus offers both a status report and a roadmap.
