Katt Williams Joins Hollywood’s Studio Owners with Alabama Property Development
In a bold move blending business acumen and creative vision, Katt Williams is stepping into the world of film studio ownership. The comedy legend has reportedly purchased a former military base in Alabama, with plans to transform it into a state-of-the-art production hub, signaling his entry into the film industry’s infrastructure game.
In an interview with GQ on November 30, Williams expressed his ambition to contribute to the growing need for production facilities, citing inspiration from Tyler Perry’s transformative work in Atlanta.
“It’s just not fair to put all that pressure on Tyler Perry,” Williams said. “He can only do so much.”
While details about the exact location and purchase price remain under wraps, Williams’ publicist, Amy Sisoyev, confirmed the acquisition. “I can’t disclose the amount or exact location just yet, but I can confirm that he has purchased a former military base in Alabama,” she told AL.com.
A Historic Site Poised for Innovation
Though unconfirmed, speculation points to the Cold War-era barracks at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Alabama. Listed for $1.5 million, the site offers a sprawling canvas for Williams’ ambitious plans. Luxe Group broker Connie Alexander, who represented the seller, hinted at the project’s potential.
“It’s a visionary endeavor, and we’re excited to see how this historic site evolves under his leadership,” Alexander said.
Locally nicknamed “Starships,” the rumored property features 30 concrete buildings with three million square feet of indoor space, including 10 barracks with 20 rooms each, two expansive gymnasiums, and over 90 acres of flat, usable land. The scale of the site positions it as a contender to rival major production facilities, potentially attracting projects ranging from blockbuster films to streaming series and live events.
A Stellar Year for Katt Williams
Williams’ venture into studio ownership caps off a remarkable year for the Friday After Next star. His candid interview on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast went viral, garnering millions of views for his unfiltered takes on fellow comedians. He also released his critically acclaimed Netflix special Woke Foke and is gearing up for his 2025 Katt Williams: Heaven on Earth tour.
This new chapter in Williams’ career underscores his commitment to shaping the entertainment industry—not just on stage but behind the scenes. By investing in a state-of-the-art production space, he aims to foster creativity and opportunity in a region ripe for development.
Why This Matters
Williams’ endeavor reflects the growing trend of artists investing in production infrastructure to build lasting legacies. As demand for filming locations continues to surge globally, facilities like Williams’ proposed Alabama studio can fill critical gaps, particularly in regions offering affordability and space for large-scale projects.
With its rich history and vast potential, Williams’ property could position Alabama as a new production hub, creating jobs and boosting the local economy. As one of comedy’s most iconic voices, Katt Williams is proving he’s not just a performer—he’s a visionary shaping the future of entertainment.
