Hungary’s film industry just scored a win: the country’s 30% tax incentive for film and TV series productions has been extended for another six years, securing its status as one of Europe’s most competitive and reliable production destinations through 2030.
Hungary’s Film Commissioner, Csaba Kael, announced the extension at the first-ever Made in Hungary event in Los Angeles—a celebration spotlighting Hungary’s success as a Central European production powerhouse. The continuation of this tax incentive is big news for filmmakers looking to maximize budgets with high production quality, as Hungary has become a go-to for Hollywood and global studios alike. The 30% rebate, based on eligible in-country expenditures, is part of Hungary’s broader film support initiative, structured to give projects a direct cash refund, boosting production viability and scope.
With an impressive lineup of recent international projects—Alien: Romulus, The Brutalist, Dune: Prophecy, NBC’s The Day of the Jackal, Pablo Larraín’s Maria, FBI: International, NCIS, and Now You See Me among them—Hungary has consistently proven its production capabilities. This incentive and Hungary’s talented crews and modern infrastructure have positioned the country as a production hub for major Hollywood studios and independent filmmakers alike.
“It’s incredible that approximately 100 international productions are made in Hungary each year, from major Hollywood blockbusters and miniseries to indie films and innovative commercials,” Kael noted at the Los Angeles event. “We’re excited to keep working with international partners, sharing stories that reach audiences everywhere. This extension empowers us to build on our achievements and further elevate Hungary’s film industry.”
Hungary’s tax rebate was first launched in 2004 and has since been a cornerstone in establishing the country as a European leader in production. With an annual production spend now reaching around $910 million, Hungary’s consistent commitment to supporting film demonstrates why it remains an increasingly attractive production destination. For studios and production companies eyeing budget optimization without sacrificing quality, Hungary’s competitive landscape just got even better.
