Once one of the most reliable service hubs in the global production machine, Hollywood North has endured a rough ride. The COVID-19 pandemic halted filming, followed by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023, which paralyzed production pipelines across North America. And even as the industry resumed, a post-strike recalibration has led to a reduction in series orders, fewer tentpoles, and heightened hesitancy around greenlighting new projects.

Now, in 2025, even uncertain trade rhetoric from former U.S. President Donald Trump is stirring fresh concern among industry insiders — adding yet another layer of unpredictability to an already fragile ecosystem.

But amid the caution, work continues. Vancouver crews — long celebrated for their speed, skill, and professionalism — are still powering through, with dozens of domestic and international projects underway across Metro Vancouver and British Columbia.

Looking Ahead

While 2025 has yet to deliver a breakout hit or major expansion announcement on the scale of The Last of Us Season 2, industry sources say there’s reason for measured optimism. Infrastructure investment remains steady, and the depth of local talent — both in front of and behind the camera — continues to attract producers.

“The foundation is strong,” one local line producer tells THR. “But the water’s still choppy. We’re waiting for a new wave of greenlights.”
