FORT WORTH, TX – The Taylor Sheridan-verse is expanding faster than a Texas horizon. In a major development that underscores the writer-director’s commitment to the Lone Star State, a new Yellowstone spinoff focused on fan-favorite characters Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler has begun filming in the small North Texas city of Ferris. The new production, which sees Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser reprising their iconic roles, is a significant relocation from the original series’ Montana setting.

The move was confirmed by Ferris city officials, who initially referred to the project by the code name “Rio Palo.” It’s a development that city manager Brooks Williams welcomed with a mix of excitement and humor. “Let’s be honest… Beth would’ve taken over City Hall before lunch, started a bar fight by dinner, and still had half the town asking her for career advice by breakfast,” Williams quipped. “As for Rip? I’d need about six months of sunlight, two ribeyes a day, and a pharmacy’s worth of vitamins just to look like him in a blurry wide shot. And that’s if you squint and hit fast forward. Until then, we’ll be off camera doing what cities do best, which is holding things together and staying out of the way when we need to.”

This new project is the latest sign that Sheridan is not just telling stories, but building a powerful, permanent production infrastructure in Texas. This ecosystem is anchored by the new SGS Studios, a massive, purpose-built complex he co-founded with Paramount and developer Hillwood.

Located in Fort Worth’s AllianceTexas development, the sprawling 450,000-square-foot, two-building SGS campus is the largest operating studio in the state. Designed to support four concurrent large-scale productions, the facility includes state-of-the-art soundstages, mill space, wardrobe, and green screen capabilities. Sheridan has long championed filming in Texas, and his vision is now a reality. “SGS Studios isn’t just about sound stages or incentives—it’s about reclaiming the independence and grit that built this industry in the first place,” Sheridan said.

The studio is already a hive of activity, hosting a robust slate of high-profile productions:

• Landman Season 2 has already wrapped production at the new SGS Studios campus. The oil-town drama, starring Billy Bob Thornton, was the first project to use the facilities and is estimated to have created nearly 4,000 jobs in the region.

• The Madison Season 2 is set to begin shooting in Fort Worth this September. A Yellowstone spinoff, the show stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams, and Matthew Fox, and previously filmed in Montana with supplemental location shoots in North Texas.

• Lioness Season 3 follows closely behind, with filming scheduled to take place across the region this October. The spy thriller’s previous seasons, starring Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman, also leveraged North Texas locations.

The expansion is supported by a newly-bolstered Texas Film Incentive Program that allocates $300 million every two years. With a diverse range of visual landscapes and rapidly expanding infrastructure, Fort Worth is quickly positioning itself as a legitimate hub for American television production and a new “Third Coast” for the industry to watch.
