Wycombe Film Studios, a growing hub for film and TV production in Buckinghamshire, England, is expanding its vision with a new proposal: data centers. Wycombe Park Ltd—formerly known as Wycombe Film Studios—has submitted revised plans to Buckinghamshire Council, introducing data warehouses that could reach up to 77 feet (23.5 meters) high alongside their previously approved production facilities.
While the studio site, located at Wycombe Air Park near the M40, received approval for film development in March 2023, market uncertainty has led the developers—backed by Luxembourg-based SCIO Capital—to diversify. The data centers would support both studio operations and evolving industry demand, adding technological infrastructure to complement creative production.
Film and Tech: A Hybrid Future for Wycombe Studios
Wycombe’s ambitious plans still feature seven new sound stages, 10 workshops, four production buildings, and a rehearsal space on the 26-acre (11-hectare) site. However, the latest proposal outlines:
Data Center Size: Six “data halls,” each approximately 110,100 square feet (9,300 square meters).
Height: Maximum heights of 77 feet (23.5 meters), including rooftop equipment.
Community Consideration: New landscaping features, including trees and an earth bund (raised embankment), to shield neighboring residential areas like Claymoor Park.
The developers emphasize that these towering data centers are in response to “substantial market demand”, underscoring the growing importance of technology in modern media production.
